LemonList Terms of Use

Effective date: October 17, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Pacific Web Design LLC, an Oregon limited liability company ("we", "us", "our"), the maker of LemonList. They cover the LemonList apps for iPhone and Android, our servers, and the website at lemonlist.io (together, "LemonList" or the "Service").

By creating an account or using LemonList, you agree to these Terms and confirm that you have read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information. If you don't agree, please don't use LemonList.

1. Who can use LemonList

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use LemonList.
  • If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), you may use LemonList only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian where the law requires it, and they agree to these Terms for you.
  • You may not use LemonList if the law forbids you from doing so, or if we have previously closed your account for breaking these Terms.

2. Your account

  • You sign in with a one-time code or link sent to your email, or with Apple or Google. Keep access to your email account and phone secure, because anyone who can use them can sign in as you.
  • Give us an email address you control, and don't sign in as someone else or impersonate anyone in your display name.
  • You're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, email support@lemonlist.io.
  • You can have one LemonList account per person, and each account can belong to one household at a time.

3. Households and sharing

LemonList is built for sharing a grocery list with the people you live or shop with.

  • What members can do. Everyone in a household can see and change the household's shared lists: add, edit, check off, and delete items, rename and reorder lists, and use suggestions and Build mode. Members see each other's names, colors, and account email addresses, and who added or checked off each item. Only invite people you trust with this.
  • Invitations. Any member can invite someone with a 6-character invite code or link. Each code works once and expires after 7 days. A household can have up to 6 members.
  • The owner. The person who creates a household is its owner. The owner can change the household's name and remove other members.
  • Leaving. Any member can leave a household at any time. If the owner leaves or deletes their account, ownership passes to the member who has been in the household longest. When the last member leaves, the household and everything in it are deleted.
  • Household content stays with the household. Items and history you add are part of the household's shared lists. If you leave, are removed, or delete your account, what you added stays with the household for the remaining members (no longer linked to your account). See our Privacy Policy for details.
  • Disagreements between members (for example, about who can stay in a household) are for the household to work out. We can't referee them, but we may step in if someone breaks these Terms.

4. Your content

"Your content" means what you put into LemonList: your name, household name, list names, items, quantities, notes, and similar information.

  • You keep ownership of your content.
  • You give us a limited license to use it to run LemonList. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, process, display, and transmit your content only as needed to provide, secure, and improve LemonList for you and your household: for example, to sync it to your household members' phones, to calculate suggestions for your household, and to sort items into aisles. This license ends when your content is deleted from LemonList, except for copies in backups (which roll over) and content that stays with your household as described above.
  • Generic item names. To sort items into aisles, we keep a shared table of generic grocery item names (for example, "dragon fruit") and the aisle they belong to. That table isn't linked to you or your household, and we may keep using it after your content is deleted.
  • You're responsible for your content. Don't put anything into LemonList you don't have the right to share, and remember that your household can see it.
  • Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.

5. Acceptable use

Please use LemonList for what it's for: planning groceries and shopping with your household. You agree not to:

  • break the law, or use LemonList to harass, threaten, or harm anyone;
  • put content in LemonList that is unlawful, or that infringes anyone's rights;
  • try to access another household's data, another person's account, or parts of the Service you're not allowed to access;
  • guess or collect invite codes, or invite people who don't want to be invited;
  • interfere with or disrupt LemonList, our servers, or our service providers, including by sending excessive requests, introducing malware, or getting around limits we put in place (such as plan limits or rate limits);
  • copy, scrape, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble LemonList, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
  • use LemonList to build a competing product, or resell or sublicense access to it;
  • use automated means to create accounts or use the Service; or
  • misrepresent who you are or your connection to anyone.

6. Plans, the starter period, and Premium

Free plan and Premium

LemonList has a free plan and a paid plan called Premium. Everything you need to share a list is free: the shared list, quick add, aisle sorting from our built-in dictionary, live sync, shopping mode, and the "Running low?" suggestions. Premium adds features such as unlimited lists, unlimited Build mode with every kind of suggestion, more ideas, and AI aisle sorting for unusual items. The free plan has limits, for example on the number of lists and on how often Build mode can be used. The current features and limits of each plan are shown in the app (Household tab, then Plan), and they may change over time as described in section 8.

One Premium subscription covers the whole household. When any member subscribes, everyone in the household gets Premium for as long as that member's subscription is active and they stay in the household.

The starter period

  • Every new household gets Premium free for 60 days from the day it's created, with no payment details required. We call this the starter period.
  • Members who join later share the household's starter period; they don't get a new one.
  • Each person gets one starter period. If you have already had one, a new household you create won't get another, including after deleting your account and signing up again with the same email address.
  • When the starter period ends, your household moves to the free plan unless someone subscribes. You won't be charged anything when it ends, because no payment details were collected.

Prices and billing

  • Premium costs $2.99 per month or $19.99 per year per household in the United States. Prices may be different in other countries and currencies and may include or exclude taxes depending on where you live. The price that applies to you is the one shown in the app and in the App Store or Google Play before you confirm your purchase.
  • Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store or by Google through Google Play, using the payment method in your Apple or Google account. Your purchase is also subject to Apple's or Google's terms. We never receive your payment details.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically. Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account when you confirm the purchase. Your subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings (on iPhone: Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions) or in Google Play (Profile, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions). Cancelling stops future renewals; Premium continues until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app or your LemonList account doesn't cancel your subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies. We can't issue refunds for purchases made through their stores. To request one, use Apple's "Report a Problem" page (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google Play's refund process.
  • Price changes. We may change Premium's price. Apple and Google will tell you in advance as their rules require, and where required, they'll ask for your consent before a higher price applies. If you don't agree to a new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.
  • Billing problems. If a renewal payment fails, Apple or Google may keep Premium active for a short grace period while they retry it. If the payment still fails, Premium ends.

What happens when Premium ends

Premium ends when the starter period ends without a subscription, when a subscription is cancelled or expires, or when the member who pays for it leaves the household, is removed, or deletes their account. When it ends, nothing is deleted:

  • your household's main grocery list keeps working as usual;
  • any other lists become locked: everyone can still see and archive them, but no one can add, edit, check off, or rename items on them until the household has Premium again; and
  • free-plan limits apply to Build mode and other Premium features.

Duplicate subscriptions

The app tries to stop two members of a household from both subscribing. If it happens anyway, both subscriptions stay active and are billed separately until one is cancelled. Each subscriber manages their own subscription with Apple or Google.

7. AI features and suggestions

  • Aisle sorting. LemonList sorts items into aisles using a built-in dictionary, your household's past choices, an on-device model on supported iPhones, and, for Premium households, an AI service from Anthropic. Automatic aisle choices can be wrong. You can always move an item to a different aisle.
  • Suggestions and Build mode. Suggestions about what your household is running low on, and the lists Build mode drafts, are estimates based on your household's own history and favorites. They may be wrong or incomplete. Check your list before you shop; we aren't responsible for an item you forgot or bought twice.
  • LemonList is a list app. Don't rely on it for anything where a mistake could cause harm, such as managing food allergies, medical diets, or medication.

8. Changes to LemonList

We're continually improving LemonList. We may add, change, or remove features, including which features are in the free plan or Premium, and the free plan's limits. If we make a change that significantly reduces what Premium includes during a period you've already paid for, we'll tell you in advance, and you can cancel. We may also stop offering LemonList altogether; if we do, we'll give you reasonable notice (at least 30 days where possible) and a way to get a copy of your data.

LemonList depends on the internet, your phone, and services run by others (such as Apple, Google, and our hosting providers). We aim to keep it running smoothly but can't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, and we may need to take it down for maintenance.

9. Ending your use of LemonList

  • You can stop using LemonList at any time. You can leave your household or delete your account in the app (Household tab). Cancel any subscription with Apple or Google first; see section 6.
  • We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if we must do so by law, or if your use puts other users, our service, or us at risk. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close your account for a reason other than your breaking these Terms, and you have a paid subscription, we'll help you get a refund from Apple or Google for the unused period where they allow it.
  • After your account ends, these Terms stop applying to your future use, but sections 4 (the parts about content that stays with the household, generic item names, and feedback), 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15 continue to apply.

10. Disclaimers

LemonList is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement, and any warranties arising from a course of dealing or usage of trade. We don't warrant that LemonList will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that suggestions or aisle choices will be accurate, or that your data will never be lost.

Some places don't allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived by contract.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law:

  • we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to LemonList or these Terms, even if we were told they were possible; and
  • our total liability for all claims arising out of or related to LemonList or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for Premium in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US $50.

These limits apply whatever the legal theory (contract, tort, including negligence, or anything else). They don't limit liability for our gross negligence, fraud, or willful misconduct, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or anything else that can't be limited by law. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

12. Indemnity

If you use LemonList in violation of these Terms or the law, or infringe anyone's rights through your content, and that leads to a claim against us by someone else, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with that claim (including reasonable attorneys' fees) and any resulting losses, to the extent caused by your violation. We'll tell you about the claim promptly, and you may help choose how it's handled. This section doesn't apply to the extent the law doesn't allow it, for example for consumers in some places.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as LemonList or the law changes. We'll post the new version at lemonlist.io/terms and change the effective date. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless it has to take effect sooner for legal reasons or to fix a security problem. If you keep using LemonList after a change takes effect, you agree to the new Terms. If you don't agree, stop using LemonList and delete your account.

14. Governing law and disputes

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, USA, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.
  • If you have a problem with LemonList, please email support@lemonlist.io first. Most problems can be solved quickly that way.
  • Any legal dispute arising out of or related to LemonList or these Terms will be decided exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Oregon, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in a small claims court that has jurisdiction.
  • If you are a consumer living outside the United States, you also keep the protection of any mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may be able to bring a claim in your local courts.
  • These Terms don't require arbitration and don't waive your right to take part in a class action.

15. General

  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about LemonList.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, and the unenforceable part will be enforced as far as allowed.
  • No waiver. If we don't enforce a part of these Terms right away, we can still enforce it later.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, or to an affiliate, as long as your rights under these Terms aren't reduced.
  • Events outside our control. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as outages at our providers, natural disasters, or internet failures.
  • Export and sanctions. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated by the US government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Our intellectual property. LemonList, its design, software, and the LemonList name and lemon logo belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the LemonList app on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, under these Terms. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
  • Third-party services. LemonList works with services from other companies, such as Apple, Google, and our service providers. Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of their services. When you use LemonList, you must also follow any terms that apply to you from your wireless carrier or other third parties.

16. Additional terms for the App Store (iPhone and iPad)

If you downloaded LemonList from Apple's App Store, these additional terms apply, and they take priority over anything in these Terms that conflicts with them:

  1. Agreement. These Terms are between you and Pacific Web Design LLC only, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). We, not Apple, are solely responsible for LemonList and its content.
  2. Scope of license. Your license to use LemonList is limited to a non-transferable license to use it on any Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that LemonList may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
  3. Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for LemonList, as described in these Terms or as required by law. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support services for LemonList.
  4. Warranty. We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If LemonList fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for LemonList to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to LemonList, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty are our sole responsibility, to the extent they aren't disclaimed under these Terms.
  5. Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to LemonList or your possession and use of it, including: (a) product liability claims; (b) any claim that LemonList fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement; and (c) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation, including in connection with LemonList's use of the HealthKit and HomeKit frameworks (LemonList uses neither).
  6. Intellectual property claims. If a third party claims that LemonList or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of that claim.
  7. Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that (a) you are not located in a country that is subject to a US government embargo, or that has been designated by the US government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (b) you are not listed on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  8. Developer contact. Questions, complaints, or claims about LemonList should be directed to: Pacific Web Design LLC, Oregon, United States, support@lemonlist.io.
  9. Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using LemonList, for example your wireless data service agreement.
  10. Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

17. Google Play

If you downloaded LemonList from Google Play, your purchase and use of LemonList through Google Play are also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for LemonList.
